Becoming Catholic

The Rite of Acceptance

The core question for the RCIA Rite of Acceptance and Welcome is “What do you ask of God’s church?” Please pray for these RCIA Candidates and Catechumens and consider how you might support them in their journey to the sacraments and full communion in the Catholic faith.

The RCIA Rite of Acceptance and Welcome looked a lot different this year! Please pray for our RCIA Candidates and Catechumens as they continue their faith journey.

I ask God's church for Baptism and Communion. I ask for support as I learn about Jesus and his love. I ask for God's church to pray for me so that I can feel and accept God's love, and share his love with my wife and family.

I ask the Church
  • to provide the sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation
  • to assist me in learning about God's grace
  • to help me know Jesus and grow in love for him
  • to find acceptance
  • to find a community that will give me the strength to live according to Christ's teachings

I ask the Church...
  • to accept me as a candidate for Full Communion.
  • to fortify  my daily Christian life, patterned after the Gospel.
  • to continue supporting my relationship and our commitment toward the covenant of marriage and Godly love.
  • to provide a loving faith community within which I worship God, just as I am.
  • to teach me about our God.
  • to inspire richness and complexity in my faith, with emphasis on developing a deeper relationship with God.
  • to celebrate with me the important events in my life and the lives of my loved ones.

I ask the Church...
  • to allow me to come into full communion with the Church;
  • to allow me to know and to guide me in the teachings of Christ;
  • to pray and give continued support for my faith journey, and
  • to help me know that this Church is my true spiritual home

Are you thinking about becoming Catholic?  RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process through which adults become full members of the Catholic Church. This process is specifically for adults who have not yet been baptized in another Christian tradition as well as for those who have been baptized but want to complete their initiation with the Sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation.
It's never too late or too early to join in the process! If you are interested, please contact Kelly Sollinger at ksollinger@buckeyecatholic.com or (614) 291-4674 x116 to set up an appointment.
Looking for ways to learn about your faith? Want to share your faith with others? Want to accompany others on their faith journey?
One of the BEST ways to learn more about your faith is to accompany someone on their faith journey. RCIA and Adult Confirmation are a great way to do this and there are MANY ways to be involved in these ministries!
  • Hospitality - This role involves creating a welcoming environment for people.  Sometimes this involves feeding people but it can also include activities like setting up a prayer table display or making sure there are  pens and papers for people to take notes.
  • Retreats - There are day-long opportunities for RCIA and confirmation participants to step back and reflect on where they are in the journey. There are many ways to be involved in making retreats successful from hospitality to music to prayer to teaching.
  • Small Group Leader - Small group discussions take place in the beginning months of RCIA as folks explore the Catholic faith and what it might mean to them. Later in the process there are small groups that meet around the Scriptures, breaking open the Word of God to explore how it applies to daily life.
  • Sponsors - A sponsor is a person who walks alongside a person going through RCIA or Adult Confirmation. Sponsors are like a good friend who can make the road ahead a little less intimidating. A sponsor is never expected to be an expert in the faith. A sponsor simply provides guidance and models how to live out the faith.
  • Discernment - A person going through RCIA or Adult Confirmation is discerning God’s call each step of the way. Sponsors assist somewhat in helping the person listen to what God might be saying. But sometimes there is a need for a deeper listening and a guide who is skilled at doing that.
  • Evangelizer - Every Christian, by nature of baptism, is called to spread the faith, to evangelize and share the good news with others. Pope Francis wrote “Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed, anyone who has truly experienced God’s saving love does not need much time or lengthy training to go out and proclaim that love.” We need folks who can seek out people who are interested in becoming Catholic or completing the confirmation process as an adult and connect them with these ministries.

What are YOUR unique gifts? Each person has a unique set of gifts and personality that God wants to use in service to His body. What is your gift? If you feel a call to serve in preparing adults to receive the sacraments of the church, then there is a place for you in this ministry!
