2011 Newman Center Wish List
The Wish List is an excellent way for anyone to “buy a gift” for the Newman Center. Some of the items below would make great stocking stuffers and some would be hard to fit under the tree. In both cases, they would enhance the ministry of the Newman Center to both the resident and OSU communities.

Support our Students!
S-1: Bibles ($30 each)
Help Buckeye Catholics explore the scriptures through Bible studies and other faith enrichment opportunities. With this gift, the Newman Center will purchase Paulist Press Bibles for use in the Student Lounge.
S-2: Buckeye Awakening ($45 per student)
Buckeye Awakening retreats take place twice each academic year. The retreat fills the Saints Peter and Paul Retreat Center in Newark to maximum capacity as more than 140 Buckeye Catholics participates in this wonderful faith-building experience. Currently the Newman Center subsidizes half the cost per student to keep the experience affordable.
S-3: Gasoline ($50 each)
Help fuel the faith of Buckeye Catholics as they participate in annual service trips offered through our campus ministry program. With this gift, the Newman Center will purchase gasoline for the large passenger vans which transport the students to and from their service destinations.
S-4: Spring Break Service Trip ($325 per student)
Many college students point to mission trips as the catalyst that inspires them to learn more about their faith. 2012 Spring Break Service Trip destinations will be New Jersey and Kentucky. Currently the Newman Center subsidizes a portion of the cost per student to keep the experience affordable.
S-5: TV for Student Lounge ($899)
Many Buckeye Catholics take advantage of the study and social space provided within the Newman Center’s Student Lounge. This gift will allow the Newman Center to purchase a 40”-46” flat screen television to be mounted on the lounges wall to provide the students with modern technology to share in video-based faith formation opportunities and other events.
Feed the Hungry!
H-1: Groceries ($25 each)
Help provide direct assistance to the needy in the University district. With this gift, the Newman Center will support the ministry our local St. Vincent de Paul chapter in its effort to provide struggling families financial assistance to purchase food.
H-2: Food for the Homeless subsidy ($140 per week)
Through our feeding ministries, volunteers from the Newman Center prepare (and often serve) more than 6,000 meals per year (or more than 115 per week) throughout Columbus.
H-3: Dishwasher for Kitchen ($5,000)
This gift will allow volunteers for the Newman Center’s many feeding programs to serve much more safely, quickly and efficiently.
H-4: Tilt Kettle for Kitchen ($7,500)
This gift will allow volunteers for the Newman Center’s many feeding programs to cook pasta, sauces and soups much more safely, quickly and efficiently, significantly cutting down on prep and cook times.
Share our Faith!
More and more parents, children and students are experiencing the richness the Newman Center’s religious education programs each year.
F-1: Christian Music ($15 each)
This gift will help the Newman Center purchase Christian CDs to enhance the experience of teens participating in our growing Youth Ministry program.
F-2: Books for Level I & II CGS Atriums ($20 each)
This gift will help the Newman Center purchase books needed by our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program.
F-3: Calligraphy Script Books ($30 each)
As part of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, children illuminate scripture passages though the art of calligraphy. This gift will help the Newman Center purchase additional calligraphy script books to teach the process. Currently students share just one book.
F-4: Great Bible Adventure ($400)
The Great Bible Adventure Timeline is a fantastic adult faith formation opportunity. This gift will allow the Newman Center to purchase the principal materials for the next installment of this DVD-based scripture study experience, the Gospel according to Matthew.
