Strategic Plan

The St. Thomas More Newman Center's Stewardship and Strategic Planning Committee (SSPC) is responsible for our community's on-going strategic planning.  In the fall of 2009, a focus group was created to re-visit the existing mission statement of the Newman Center. In consultation with student leaders and staff, and guided by our values and the US Conference of Catholic Bishop's document Empowered by the Spirit, the mission statement was brought up to date and will guide all our strategic planning.  

Each year, the Newman Center staff spends two days away from the distractions of the office to focus on "the big picture". To bring some levity to the planning meeting, this annual event is called PLan-a-Palooza.  The goal of this year's Plan-a-Palooza was to identify the top strategic priority to carry out the vision, and flesh out objectives that would acomplish that top priority. Guided by the Director, our statements of Mission and Vision became clearer, and with the assistance of community members trained in facilitation and strategic planning, our planning goals were realized.

Mission

We are a welcoming community for Catholic faith, fellowship, and service at The Ohio State University. We foster an atmosphere within which all can develop their Catholic identity and live as committed disciples of Jesus Christ.

Vision

Our Catholic campus ministry at The Ohio State University will be recognized world-wide as an exceptional model that shapes current and future leaders of the Church and society.

Our vibrant faith community will attract students to The Ohio State University.

Our continuously growing ministry will be supported and enhanced by empowered staff and ministry leaders, living stewardship, and state-of-the-art facilities.

Our integrated, intergenerational faith environment will help students more fully understand the idea of community and Church and engage them to go out into the world to live the Gospel.

What's next?

For each objective, a small team of staff members are developing a set of short term goals, performance measures, and timelines. The teams will enlist the aid of Newman Center committees, community members, and student leaders to bring their skills, wisdom and experience to the table. The teams are committed to investing the time necessary to develop a comprehensive plan before taking action.
