Fr. David O'Brien, C.S.P.
On the morning of Friday, Dec. 24 at 1:30 a.m. Fr. Dave O’Brien, C.S.P., former director of the Newman Center, died at the Mohun Nursing Facility. He had been suffering from complications with myasthenia gravis and had been failing in the past few days.
Fr. Dave served the St. Thomas More Newman Center well as director from 1995 to 2004. Following his official retirement, he continued to be a part of the Newman Center community that he loved and admired so well. A fuller bio for Fr. Dave can be found on the Paulist website at: http://www.paulist.org/who-we-are/leadership/fr-david-obrien/.
One Paulist has recalled that Fr. Dave always felt that Christmas Eve was the most important day of the year to preach, noting the power of of the text from O Little Town of Bethlehem: “The hopes and fears of all the years, reside in thee tonight.” May Fr. Dave now reside in the eternal peace of our Savior, whose Incarnation we celebrate this evening.
Funeral and vigil wake arrangements are currently being made. Once set, we will inform the entire faith community. Eternal rest grant unto Fr. Dave, O Lord. And, let perpetual light shine upon him.
Fr. Joe Ciccone, C.S.P.
