Become Catholic

  • Are you considering becoming a Catholic?
  • Are you seeking baptism or have you been baptised as a Catholic or in another Christian tradition but want to receive First Eucharist and Confirmation?
  • Are you already Catholic, but want to grow in your faith by serving as a sponsor or team member?

The RCIA process may be just what you are looking for! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the Roman Catholic Church’s way of initiating and welcoming new members into the Catholic Church.

  • RCIA is comprised of several distinct stages. If you begin the process and discern that the Holy Spirit is not calling you to become Catholic at this time, there is no obligation to continue.

  • RCIA is about presentation and process. Presentations about the Catholic faith are offered at each session. Prayer, discernment, small group discussion and retreat experiences help individuals integrate the presentation material.

At the St. Thomas More Newman Center, we take great care in how we implement the RCIA process. We realize that even if we had an unlimited amount of time, we could never adequately cover all aspects of the Catholic faith. Our goal is to provide our participants with enough “guideposts” to integrate their life experiences into a Catholic framework. Hopefully, this framework will support a lifetime of ever-deepening relationship with God, with neighbor, and with self.

Are you called to the journey?

The RCIA process begins each October. We hope you will join us! Here are three ways to get involved:

  • As an inquirer. If you or anyone you know is wondering about becoming a Catholic, please contact Becca Schott at (614) 291-4674 x101 to set up an appointment.

  • As a sponsor. If you are already a fully-initiated Catholic looking to grow in your faith, consider being a spiritual companion to an inquirer. Each inquirer is paired with a sponsor. Please contact Becca to set up an appointment.

  • As a volunteer. It takes a village to run an RCIA process. We are looking for people to give presentations, lead reflection groups, handle administrative details, cook meals, and design promotional displays. If you would like to learn more about the opportunities available, please contact Becca.
