Austin Schafer
Pastoral Associate for Campus Ministry
Austin became the Pastoral Associate for Campus Ministry at the Newman Center in July 2009. Previously, he was a Campus Ministry Graduate Assistant at the University of Dayton from 2007-09 serving in UD's Student Neighborhood as well as in the areas of retreats, liturgy, service, and faith communities. Prior to his time at the University of Dayton, Austin served as a Pastoral Associate for Youth Ministry at the Catholic Community of Saint Matthias in Somerset, N.J. from 2005-07, as well as served as a retreat facilitator at the Center for FaithJustice in Lawrenceville, N.J. Austin has published eight different youth ministry programs as an author with the Center for Ministry Development.
At The Ohio State University, Austin serves on the Executive Team of the University Interfaith Association in the role of treasurer. Here in the Diocese of Columbus, he serves as a Virtus: Protecting God's Children facilitator.
Austin holds a M.A. in Theological Studies from the University of Dayton, a Graduate Certificate in Youth Ministry from Seton Hall University, a National Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies from the Center for Ministry Development, advanced catechist certification from the Archdiocese of San Antonio, a Certificate in Pastoral Studies from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, and a Certificate in Pastoral Ministry and B.A. in Philosophy from Saint Xavier University in Chicago.
